Parenting tips to take care of new born baby in the car
Babies and children need to be in car seats when riding in a car. It’s the law in the United States.
A car seat can save your baby’s life if it’s put in correctly and used every time your baby rides in the car.
Here are some suggestions for keeping your baby safe in a car seat:
- Properly fasten the seat into your car. Read the directions for both the car seat and the car you’ll be using.
Some hospitals offer free car seat safety checks to make sure you’ve installed your car seat correctly. - Use the right size and type of car seat. New born babies are placed in rear facing car seats only.
When your baby is over 20 pounds and is least 1 year old, he can face forward. - Put the car seat in the back seat. If you have a middle seat, use it. Keep your baby away from car windows and air bags.
This is because air bags are meant to restrain an adult during the crash and the amount of force they need to achieve this is strong enough to hurt or even kill a small child. - The car seat harness should be snug over your baby’s shoulders.
The harness retainer clip should be at the same level as your baby’s armpits. - Avoid wrapping your baby in blankets that pad his shoulders.
Put him in the car seat and then put a blanket over him. Or use a warm outfit with arms and legs. - Be careful about adding car seat pads. These can make your car seat unsafe.
Instead, use a rolled-up towel or small blanket tucked in around your baby’s head for support. - Never put two children together within one seat belt.
Also never restrain your baby or toddler with yourself in your seat belt. - Before buckling your child ensure that the car seat buckle is not too hot.
This may happen if your car was parked in the sun for a long time. - Don’t leave your kid behind in a locked or unlocked car, whatever his age.
Don’t even think about it if your child is sleeping.
